Pampas, <<PAM puhs>>, is a Guarani Indian word that means plain, or stretch of flat land. Geographers use the word pampas to describe a huge grassland region in Argentina. The region fans out around Buenos Aires and extends into western Uruguay and southern Brazil. An area of fertile soil and grasses, the Argentine Pampas yields many crops and supports livestock. It is also the site of most of Argentina’s urban areas.
