Tourism officials in New Orleans sought to tranquil fears following a gunfight in the 700 block of Bourbon Street in the French Quarter early on June 29, which injured 9 people, like visitors.
“Tragedies of violence are impacting metropolitan areas across our country, and whilst this is a critical, tough situation for our group, we are encouraged by the initiatives Mayor Mitch Landrieu and his administration have presented it,” Stephen Perry, president of the New Orleans Convention and Guests Bureau, and Mark Romig, president and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Advertising Corp. mentioned in a joint assertion.
The shootout transpired about the corner from the Preservation Hall jazz location and Pat O’Brien’s bar.
“This is a heinous criminal offense among two armed men who selected to settle a dispute between them selves with out a moment’s treatment for anybody else,” stated Law enforcement Superintendent Ronal Serpas.
Two of the nine victims are in critical condition.
Serpas stated far more officer patrols are prepared for the French Quarter and town festivals for the July 4 weekend.
