Jazz in New Orleans is getting a new house with the April two opening of the Peoples Wellness New Orleans Jazz Market place in the Central Town community.
The principal attraction at the thirteen,000-square-foot venue will be demonstrates by Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, an 18-piece huge band, which has performed at places like the Modern day Arts Center. But Mr. Mayfield, 37, a Grammy-winning trumpeter and the bandâs inventive director, said the band needed a location of its own.
The marketplace will also show thirty black-and-white images taken by Herman Leonard of musicians like Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong, and the Bolden Bar, named for the influential cornet participant Charles Joseph Bolden, identified as Buddy.
