Geelong

Geelong <> is a metropolis and port in Victoria, Australia. It’s forty five miles (seventy two kilometers) southwest of Melbourne. Geelong stands on the shores of Corio Bay.

Geelong has many high quality parks, together with the Botanical Gardens and Kardinia Park. Kardinia Park is house for the Geelong Cats within the Victorian Soccer League competitors.Main industries embrace automotive manufacturing, oil refining, aluminum smelting, and the manufacturing of batteries, carpets, cement, clothes, footwear, fertilizers, glass, house home equipment, rope, salt, wine, and wire. The port of Geelong is a serious port.

In 1824, the Australian explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell traveled overland alongside the western shore of Corio Bay. They heard the Aborigines name the bayJillong, and the land Corayo. One of many first settlers, Alexander Thomson, took up a property referred to as Kardinia, south of the current metropolis in 1837. Sir Richard Bourke, the governor of latest South Wales, visited the world in 1837. In 1838, Bourke declared it a city. It turned a metropolis in 1910.
