Lake Titicaca

Lake TiticacaLake Titicaca <<TEE tee KAH kah>> is a lake within the Andes Mountains of South America. The lake lies on the border between Peru and Bolivia, 12,507 ft (three,812 meters) above sea degree. The lake covers about three,200 sq. miles (eight,300 sq. kilometers) and is greater than 900 ft (270 meters) deep in locations. The Desaguadero River flows out of its southern finish and empties into Lake Poopo in Bolivia.

Many islands lie within the lake. Some have ruins of Indian civilizations that existed earlier than the Spanish conquest of South America within the 1500’s. Quite a few Indian villages lie close to Lake Titicaca’s shore. Many villagers make boats from reeds referred to as totoras, which develop on the shores of the lake.
